ID: TOLL FREE CALL
Company: Bay Area Credit
Called several times, even during the weekends. They left voicemail saying they're looking for ..., and "by continuing to listen to this message, you're confirming that you're the person we're calling for." What a scam! If someone didn't pick up the phone, chances are they are not going to pick it up. How can that count as a confirmation to anything? That alone proves that they're shady.
The madness had to stop. So I decided to pick up the phone on a Sunday. The guy said they're Bay Area Credit collecting for AT&T. Turned out they were looking for someone else with the same name with different home address and birthdate. Told the guy, wouldn't believe me. He said that in order to prove that I'm NOT the person they're looking for, I'd have to provide my SSN.
Like hell I would! "Just the last 2 numbers," he insisted, then started to accuse me for not confirming my identity. No way. I have nothing to prove to you. You just someone over the phone, I don't even know who you are. YOU're the one who should be proving yourself to ME. Prove to me that I'm the one you're looking for. If you cannot do that, we're done. I don't have to prove to you anything.
Let him have a piece of my mind and he finally said he'd take care of it. It's been 3 days, haven't heard from them since.
I keep getting phone calls from this number too, and I am getting tired. I pay my bills on time and I think this must be some type of scam.
ReplyDeleteWe have been receiving calls from this number for over a month. First on our regular house phone & they wouldn't stop. So I blocked the number. Now I'm getting them on my unlisted cell phone. From what I have read, they claim to be a collection company for AT&T. We closed our account with AT&T back in March. Called the company and requested a final bill. Their representative didn't have the ability to do that. So she told me for the few days of service, it would not be more than $20, but acknowledged that my account had in fact been closed by us. She said that I would receive a final bill in the mail and that I could take it to any AT&T office to pay. When the bill arrived, it was for the full unused month, a late fee plus $21 extra. Ridiculous!!!! So, we drove 30 miles to the closest AT&T office & requested assistance in clearing up the matter. They connected us to India and the response was "I don't have the authority to make that adjustment. SO - my question is who in this big world has the authority do deal with Consumer Complaints for AT&T. Bottom line: This comment is a complaint against both 1-800-399-2019 and AT&T.
ReplyDeletethey call at different times also at night.
ReplyDeleteDo not fall for their scam!
ReplyDeleteThey called my roommate about his phone bill that was due within 1 hour that totaled $1,886.67. The woman on the phone had an Indian accent, and she referred to herself as Annie Sanders. They tried to get him to record a promise over the phone that he would pay it within the hour, otherwise it would negatively affect his credit score. After going to the official AT&T website and calling the listed number on the site, I found out that his phone bill was up-to-date, and all he had to do was pay $25.00 within the next 30 days. SCAM. PERIOD.
They call me asking for my husband's ex wife's soon to be new ex husband. I don't get how they associated my phone number with him at all. It's very annoying. I have NOTHING to do with the guy they are mentioning. I am thinking about answering next time and informing them to not ever call me for this guy.
